From the game's PoV, I hope you are dead wrong.. The best thing that could happen to the game, is ONE realm for EU and ONE realm for US..

Please, no no no no lol. Lag and competition for mobs is more than bad enough already, thanks - I actually want them to use their virtual realm tech to split big realms like Draenor in the busiest zones; there's actually no need for all of us online in the same zone at the same time to be able to see everyone else at once; phase half of us into another realm (temporarily, ofc - grouping up would shift phase so you're together) and give us some chance at not lagging to death and maybe even being able to tag something once in a while, I say! Razz

The world would have to be one heck of a lot larger to manage that many people at once; Draenor is a fantastic example of what it's like when overpopulated, and there's never much over 5k online at one time (guesswork there, based off 4-4.2k Horde census results and assuming 600-1k on Alliance, however it takes an hour to run a census so may pick up more characters than are actually online). Change that to about 50k for all Europe (very conservative estimate, I'd expect far more; new expansion times and you're talking 500k minimum...) and omg it'll be hell on earth.

Already when a new expansion launches I have to play overnight to get out of the first zone and into places where it's possible to tag any mobs at all. Every new patch content is impossible to tag stuff and shared tag mobs last about 3 seconds, plus enormous lag (not sure if you were on Draenor when 5.2 launched but Oondasta spawns crashed the server several times a week for the first month...). There's simply no way the hardware could ever cope with that, and the sheer volume of players would wreck the game for everyone as it's just no fun at all not being able to actually tag anything.

If I hadn't been on Draenor so long I'd have moved by now as the overpopulation really spoils things, unfortunately staying put is the only chance I have to reconnect with old friends when they return to the game. Plus in any case, after eight years here, Draenor is home. Not such a fun home as it once was, but it just feels wrong being anywhere else so I have to put up with it.

I think I might have a release for CensusPlus tomorrow...maybe..I still want to test certain areas more.

Currently it handles in game up to 5 connected realms...
As stated before, after starting a census /take and learning the realm membership, the in game census window can display:
All race/class/level selected displays for the superset realm and each member realm (and even display correct info... something I had not checked completely since taking over development from Rollie)

Upon selecting a member realm the top XP guilds valid to that realm are displayed and the race/class/level selectors can be used to limit the view of the data.

If you move to another member realm after selecting a realm's guild, the guild display will blank.. deselecting back to superset and then again to the new member realm displays the new selected realm's guilds.

Remember when a guild is selected, its membership can be drawn from all connected realms, and so far from my testing I have that code correct.

As much as I tried not having to toss out most of Rollie's display code... it did end up being a complete rewrite of those sections of the code to handle the situations where data was member realm specific or did a back door search of the superset.

As of this moment the character sub-window is not working... it also needs a big rewrite of the code so that character "Thatguy" of realm a isn't confused with "Thatguy" of realm b. And that seen guild membership is correctly pulled from all member realms.

I'm working on that... but I can't promise it will be ready for tomorrow.

/cheer, wondered when we'd finally get some! No surprise that Hakkar is one of the first lol, surprised Crushridge isn't included too. They'll get added into a batch soon though.

Two pairs each for English and German realms, about what I expected tbh, Spanish and French are almost all Medium rather than Low, and Italian only has two realms of different types so can't merge regardless.

Just paid the Hakkar/Emeriss pairing a visit and can't see any obvious glitches with EU realms, phew!

A small question - /census serverprune is meant to clear all realms except your current one. Does that mean it deletes connected realm data, or is it smart enough to leave it in place? Wink Could see that being an annoyance to people who play on connected realms if it bins their data lol, doesn't really affect me but just curious!

That is a good question Balgair.

Since I haven't reworked that area... the only realm that is touched is the login realm.

But that probably needs to be changed... to impact the superset realm.. if you are on a connected realm your 'current realm' is the connected realm not just the member realm.

After all it seems to me that Blizzard is on the road to downplaying the old realms into just being neighborhoods within the new connected realm.

Hehe I was pretty sure it'd be likely to be only the login realm treated as "home" rather than the conglomeration of connected realms Wink Worth playing with when you've got some free time on your hands I guess though - I'm sure there's more important matters to work on first though, it's a fairly minor deal in the overall scheme of things Smile

I spent some time looking at pruning today... (while I wait and give time for users to comment on the character list items)

I gave up when my eyes started loosing focus... unfortunately this is another area that will require rewrite to handle both single realm and multiple realm processing.

So Yes for now... If you do Prune.. you will probably want to log in on all the realms in the connected set to prune the whole connected realm evenly. (which you would want to do to get balanced results across all the members.)

Doing Serverprune... isn't going to give you the results you want if you use it on a connected realm.

I suspect that Blizzard may have run into some problem(s) with the ' in Kor'gall. If so, more problems inbound for US tomorrow. Sad

Didn't happen on the day but apparently since maintenance Nesingwary and Vek'nilash have massive issues with characters and guilds going missing or characters can't be logged into. Maybe coincidence that that's the only pairing this has happened to and nothing to do with the name but still, ouch!
