Sure. How about this? You should pay me to protect you from receiving 1 million spam messages per hour. If you don't I'll send you 1 million messages per hour.

Granted, the way out on this site is not to visit, but I hope you see similarities. Buying protection anyone? Bad business plan is not an excuse for supporting illegal or questionable deeds. There are many ways to make that $400. How about finding a hosting company that would sponsor you or at least part of the bill or something like that? I can think of many other ways.

Just because you can make tons of money selling drugs you wouldn't do it simply because you can make more money doing that than selling sandwiches right? There are legal and ethical boundaries in my opinion.

it's not spam, it's advertisement space. It's like the billboards you pass on the highway, even if you're a vegan, you'll still see the bigmac. Now what if you could get rid of them altogether on a stretch of road that you sometimes go to?

Just imagine seeing your favorite TV shows without commercial interruption?

Imagine listening to the radio and only hearing songs.

Awesome. People pay for sattelite radio. People pay for Seasons of TV shows on DVD. A website that gives you information for free? Sure, some hosting may be cheap on a personal... but... imagine over 200,000 page hits every DAY, people requesting shorter processing times, requesting for more. I think we're up to 2 dedicated servers. It gets expensive!

Legal issues? No. It's like buying NoS for your car. You think that people hitting that are going to stay below 70mph on a highway? I doubt that. Ethical, maybe... but bills have to be paid.

With that being said, how about you buy a sandwich?

And besides, this isn't a business. Yarly.

You don't wanna' help out in any shape or form, that's fine with us. If you can't be enthused to fix it from your side (whether by paying the $10 or by getting Firefox and co.), then we can't help you.[/list]

Maybe it should be a business. At least sole proprietorship in order to deduct all these expenses. Otherwise all this income received from advertisers has to be reported as personal income. I am sure the owner checked into it, just not sure .

Please stop telling me how to remove the ads. I am aware of how it is done. I was simply stating why I don't think it is a good idea to allow advertisers to promote things against TOS.

And as far as not wanting to help I never said that I wouldn't. However I would be much more inclined to do so were there no associations with companies promoting breaking of TOS of game I enjoy playing.

Wowhead, Thottbot, Allakhazam, all owned by the same company who supported companies that violate the ToS. Surely you intend to not visit those sites right?

And unlike other sites, this site has not been compromised by keyloggers placed in ads.

Alright, lemme revisit... your point was that it's basically coming into your shop and bullying you into doing it... not so. The ads were prolly here way before most people came in, so it's not like if it was a 7 day ad free campaign and then WHAM the ads came jumping out at you. And since they were preexisting it cant be compare to bullying into buying protection.

Hi there,

I just do not see any ads. I am so overpowered by ads that they are just not visible. Bills have to be paid and the time which goes in a good informal website has to be remunerated. I suppose anyone not liking ads pay Dollar 100 a month and he will maybe removing them.

When I first logged in, I noticed the gold seller ads, but assumed that it was because the site host hadn't been able to eliminate them all. To hear that this is ouright blatant support for one of the most obnoxious and game-ruining behaviors is disheartening. I will no longer be using the addon, or following this site. Very disappointing. And no, I don't use wowhead/thottbot/alakhazam for the same reason. Wowdigger.com fills that role nicely. Plenty of other great community sites like Wowinsider and wcradio.com have figured out how to keep their sites afloat without needing to support such disreputable companies, it's too bad that this site has been unable to do so.

I assume account deletion is relatively straight forward, if it isn't, please feel free.

Wowinsider.com on the banner has gold selling adds above the header ad. Also it's a whore onto itself. You get 95%+ content here. maximize your window. go all the way down to any page on wowinsider.com and see all it's "Affiliates". How much content are you actually getting? Argh my eyes, I say. And with no apparent opt out feature.

WCRadio. Ha. My brother was one of the original staff back in '04-05. WCRadio began as a pet project by a spoiled rich kid by his daddy. Not to take from his site. It's gotten noteriety due to references from Blizz because no site before it had done what it does, they lounge on IRC, talk wow, have a talkshow streamed even.

However there are notations from WoW/Blizz that WCR is a legitimate source of information. Why? Because it raw statistical data for their game for people to draw their own conclusions. There were/are no other sites that do what WCR does. No one previously given free sigs, guild information (that you can even export), character history, pve progress, battleground information, or come close to it. (Although i've seen some nice sigs from other sites now, but none as customizable as Mysigspace's)

WCR out performs WCRadio. it takes more to keep this massive site going, to get the data base up to date.

WCRadio

It's so blown out the water, it's not even funny. Their bandwidth is keeping some poor sap yapping about how possibly pertinent conversation or maybe his skewed views that X item is TOTALLY a hunter weapon. Our processing is maintaining the integrity and statistics totally free at the expense of a couple of ads.

Sad to hear that you're leaving, but you can still use our services, we won't be spiteful Smile Out of the millions that use this site only half a dozen have complained, to put it into perspective.

Knowing how many are opted out might be be that clear a stat btw - I'm "opted out", but I didn't actually, I just got that as an unintentional side effect of making a donation Razz Not that I'm complaining, ads of any kind are annoying.

I'm not a fan of gold and powerlevelling ads, would much prefer if they could be done without, but if the money's needed, then the money is needed; much better to have a valuable site like this one still online than not online, because I bet there wouldn't be enough donations to make up for the lost money.

I love how you have to deride other sites to justify this site supporting gold sellers. If the site draws so much traffic, then there should be no problem finding legitimate sponsors and advertisers. There is no need to support those activities which have a negative impact on the game you claim to be providing such vital information and statistics for.

You cited two specific examples as not having gold selling ads, one did and the other one was comparing apples to oranges due to the nature of the sites and what each other one provides.

Apples to Oranges: I can go ahead and compare your Wowinsider with Warriorpwns.com, but Wowinsider has dozens of writers and tons of content. Warriorpwns doesn't give daily content, but using the same sort of logic, you can say that wowinsider shouldn't have ads at all because warriorpwns doesn't. they would contend that it's not the same type of site, and you're comparing apples to oranges.

You still can't justify supporting an activity that damages the game you claim to be supporting, violates its EULA and/or TOS, and is openly condemned by the makers of said game. If this site draws as much traffic as you claim, it should have no problem drawing legitimate sponsors and advertisers.
